I first came to yoga in the mid-1980s when finding classes (and buying mats!) was a challenge. There just weren’t many classes available at that time. As a result, I drifted away from yoga for a decade before rediscovering it in the late 1990s in New York City. From that point on, I was hooked. A few years after moving to western Massachusetts, I decided to undertake a teacher training program, which I completed in 2005, and have been teaching ever since. Most of my teachers have been Iyengar-based, and my own teaching and practice are greatly influenced by those teachers and the Iyengar method. However, my approach to yoga often takes a decidedly personal spin. Merging the classic and the contemporary helps me keep my teaching fresh and insightful, balancing an emphasis on anatomical integrity with compassion, joy, enthusiasm, and humor.
I have served as the yoga instructor at Deerfield Academy since 2010, where I teach daily yoga classes each term to a group of students who elect to take yoga as an alternative to participating in sports. I also work with many of the school’s athletic teams and offer classes to the entire school community, as well. From 2009 to 2017, I operated my own studio, Hart Yoga, in Shelburne Falls, Massachusetts.
In addition to many studios in Western Massachusetts, my teaching credits include Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health, the Nantucket Yoga Festival, the Martha’s Vineyard Yoga Festival, and the Slow Living Summit in Brattleboro, VT. I have taught throughout the northeast, the mid-Atlantic region, and in New York City. I currently teach both virtual and in-person classes and am available for private instruction and I look forward to sharing lessons I have learned with you.
I am also a writer and performer.
