My Wedding Vows to Me in 2023

I don’t know about you, but I hate to make New Year Resolutions. It feels like drudgery. I don’t even resonate with the words – “resolution” or “resolve”. They feel very restrictive and immutable, full of determination, yes, but lacking curiosity, insight, or growth. I am no longer interested in a ‘To Do’ list.

Over the years, I’ve come to realize that I resonate much more deeply with Life Commitments – words which feel like love Vows to Myself, marrying who I perceive myself to be with my Best Self. This understanding feels like I AM a work in progress, making choices and taking actions that in are full alignment with my deepest desires of Be-ing, not what I “should” be Do-ing.

Makes sense, yes?

So. Let’s start.

Think about your BIG dreams. Think about your BEST Self and how you desire to reveal or expand into that Being.

Pull out a journal and get curious.

Here are some questions to get you started – and allow others to emerge.

  1. What can I set down to reveal my Best Self? (ex. People pleasing, procrastination, sugar, potato chips…)
  2. What can I embrace to expand into my Best Self? (ex. A few more minutes of meditation, gentler self-talk, reading/learning rather than social scrolling, drinking more water, you get the picture)
  3. How does making this commitment to Myself make me feel?
  4. How do I speak to myself around this commitment?
  5. When I know that these choices are good for me, why won’t I allow myself to have them? How can that change?
  6. What am I most afraid of when I think about my BIG dreams? How can I meet those fears?
  7. Do I genuinely care about this ‘goal’ or am I reaching for it because everyone else is? Because I ‘should’?
  8. What is deeply meaningful to me and why? And how can I expand these in my Be-ing and in my Life? What are some steps I can take to embrace these desires?
  9. What is emerging for me that feels important, to which I should give attention?

When you are finished journaling and have generated your list of commitments, create a ceremony. Light a candle, look into a mirror, gaze deeply into your eyes, and share your vows with love and excitement. And let the magic begin…
