Vibrations of Life
Lessons in Mindfulness: Vibrations for Health and Strength
What are we thinking about today? Let me give you a hint. Vibrations. What do we know about vibrations? How can vibrations be used to help us be stronger, healthier, and happier?
According to Albert Einstein, “Everything in life is vibration.”
Dr. Albert Abrams said, “All matter vibrates, and these vibrations are specific to the type of matter and its composition.”
One day we walked into Perfect Fit Wellness Center and located David’s office in the workout room, we saw a strange looking machine next to his office door. What is it? What does it do? Why was it in the gym?
Vibrations provide benefits for helping us all with balance, strength, as well as physical and psychological health. Included in this blog are the findings of research that has been done on the value of both physical and sound vibrations on the human body.
Physical Vibration (Vibration Therapy)
Physical vibration dates back to ancient Greece. A type of vibration therapy was developed in the 1800s for Parkinson’s disease and into the 20th century for neurological studies involving cerebral palsy, elite athletes, and astronauts.
Vibration therapy was used with astronauts after it was discovered they experienced bone loss after spending extended time in space. The scientists found that standing on an oscillating plate for at least 10 minutes a day brought about a regain in bone loss. Further studies were initiated as a result of the initial findings.
There are two types of physical vibration therapy. One is a whole-body vibration which are found typically in gyms and fitness centers. These machines can create a broad range of vibration intensity. The other is a local muscle vibration which is less aggressive and sends tiny vibrations within specific muscle groups.
Benefits of Vibration Therapy
Research has concluded that vibration therapy offers several benefits. Below are a few of their findings.
- Prevents falls and improves balance. Muscle strength is increased through the repeated contraction of muscle groups.
- May slow bone deterioration. This is inconclusive but shows a positive correlation.
- Lowers cortisol levels. Shown a reduction in levels of the stress hormone.
- Increases aerobic capacity. Shows elevated metabolic energy turnover and increased aerobic capacity.
- Brings the body into balance. A 2020 study found that vibration therapy improved muscle imbalances.
- Increased strength, power, and flexibility. A study in 2018 indicates vibration therapy benefits muscle activation, strength, power, range of motion and flexibility.
- May increase fat loss. There appears to be a connection between vibration therapy and fat reduction.
- May help relieve muscle soreness. Research suggests that vibration therapy can reduce the effect of delayed onset muscle soreness.
- Improves pain and stiffness associated with arthritis. Research suggests there is a positive impact on osteoarthritis and vibration therapy.
Check out the vibration plates in the gym and learn the proper use. If you are under a doctor’s care, be sure to consult the doctor first.
Sound Vibrations (Sound Therapy)
Sounds make vibrations that can be heard. Listen to the sounds around you. Some are relaxing while others tend to make you feel anxious. There are reasons for this difference in the feelings sounds give each of us. The singing bowls in Tibet. The flute and fiddle in Scotland. The “Um” with meditation. The chants from the shaman in ceremonies. From Native Americans to Chinese Monks these sounds that heal the mind, body, and spirit have been heard for centuries. Today the medical field is researching, testing, and creating various ways for sound to be used for healing.
Sound therapy can be performed by using the vibrations made by the sounds and making contact to specific areas of the body. Another way is through the creation of sounds based upon the measurement (known as hertz-Hz) of vibrations and focusing on the sounds while meditating.
How Sound Therapy Works
- The cranial nerve connects the eardrum to every organ, except the spleen which generates frequencies to the organs and cells of the body to open energy blockages and aids both mental and physical healing.
- Externally generated sounds can have a profound and direct effect on the internal functions of the body. Sound frequencies harmonize cells, organs, and biological systems.
- Ultrasound devices used to diagnose illnesses can also be used for therapeutic purposes and promote healing.
- A specific frequency can both influence and be influenced by all other matter.
Benefits of Sound Therapy
- Aids in achieving a state of relaxation.
- Eases stress and anxiety.
- Moves blockages in the body.
- Helps reduce blood pressure.
- Eases pain and depression.
- Encourages sleep.
- Helps people with autism.
Vibrations are everywhere in our environment. When cells are vibrating harmoniously with their environment, they are healthy and able to fight against illness.
Physical vibration and sound vibrations can make us healthy and strong when used appropriately.
